Selby won a highly entertaining Intermediate Cup first round encounter 39-33 at Dinnington thanks to Tony Godfrey's last-minute try.

The men from Sandhill Lane took the lead after 15 minutes when scrum half Matthew Smith jinked over under the posts, but Toby Pemberton missed the conversion attempt.

Stand-off John Webster increased the lead with another try under the sticks which Pemberton managed to improve.

But Selby's 12-0 lead was cut when Dinnington full back Dean Lax overlapped to score a try he converted himself.

The home side then got in front when two Selby kicks failed to make touch. The ball was spread wide and Gareth Morley scored, Lax adding the extras.

Hamish Burns came on for Webster, who had a shoulder injury, at half-time but Dinnington took control with tries by Scott Richie and Lax, who converted his own try.

The South Yorkshire side were in the box seat at 26-12 up, but Selby hit back with tries by Burns and Martin Protheroe after 55 and 59 minutes.

Just as Selby were threatening to get in front, Dinnington scored a superb try by Lax which he converted to make it 33-22.

But Selby proved the stronger side in the final 15 minutes and took victory with tries by Burns and Godfrey, which he converted himself. Pemberton converted Burns' try and slotted over a penalty in the fourth minute of added on time to seal victory.

Selby had three sets of brothers in their starting line-up - Andrew and Jamie Pocklington, Andy and Paul Gabel and Wright and Duncan Phillips.
