I AM sorry to read that Councillor Galloway is persisting with his illogical stories about the importance of Castle car park and the revenue from it (September 11).

By definition, Coppergate II, which he enthusiastically supported, would have closed the car park and transferred parking to the bottom end of Piccadilly where it belongs.

That could still be organised as a free-standing scheme with a parking developer and, if it were financially viable, the council could take a share of the profits. If it were not viable then I suspect it would prove that parking at Castle is not viable if the capital value of the land is taken into account, in which case the council is quite improperly subsidising motorists.
