POP Idol is a refreshingly true programme. The contestants do their very best and the critics are honest.
This is what life is all about. Wonderful young people - preparing themselves thoroughly, getting excited at being chosen, being able to perform live on TV and having their big moment.
The judges give honest views and do not lie to the contestants by telling them they are good - when they're not. It is so much better than raising false hopes.
If only other live programmes such as cookery, garden and house makeover shows were as honest! Do people really like every bit of cooking they taste? Can every householder really be bowled over by a changed garden or room? I certainly wouldn't say I was if I was not pleased with the results.
More honesty on TV, please!
