ANDY Cooke collected two more doubles titles to extend his remarkable record in the York Municipal Tennis Championships at sun-drenched Clifton Park on Saturday.
He won his tenth men's doubles title when he and Steve Smith retained their crown in a repeat of last year's final against Pete Goodall and Paul Blackett.
A break in each set was all that was required for York's first string Yorkshire League pairing to win 6-3 6-4.
After an half-hour break Cooke was back on court in the mixed doubles final with partner Margaret Whitehead.
It was a similar game to the men's doubles final which saw some sharp volleys and plenty of movement with the Cooke-Whitehead combination beating Smith and Wendy Stirke 6-3 6-4.
The result ensured that Whitehead, like Cooke, finished the championships with two titles, having partnered Danielle Baker to the women's doubles
crown. But they didn't have it all their own way against Stirke and Louise Lister, who were 4-1 up in the second set in which they had two set points.
However, the Whitehead-Baker combination prevailed 7-5 7-5 in an entertaining battle.
All three doubles finals produced tennis of the highest quality and the level was maintained by the veteran men.
Dunnington's Kevin Todd had too much for Pete Sutherland, winning the singles 6-4 6-1 for the fifth successive year.
Ken Storey and Stuart Robertson overcame Stuart Langley and John Linfoot in the veteran's men's doubles. A tight opening set went the way of Storey-Robertson 7-5 in a tie break. The second set proved a more routine affair as they eased home 6-2.
After three years as tournament referee Tony Precious has stood down from the demanding post and the role next year will be filled by Margaret Whitehead.
