FORMER York City striker Mark Wood notched Pickering Town's winner at Bishop Auckland in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

The 1-0 victory, courtesy of Wood's 14th minute strike, marked one of the Cup's biggest upsets as the Pikes overcame the UniBond League division one outfit.

The draw for the second qualifying round was being made this afternoon at FA headquarters.

Pickering banked £2,250 from Saturday's win to add to the £1,500 they have picked-up from victory in two earlier rounds.

Fellow Northern Counties East League premier division outfit Harrogate Railway saw their hopes of repeating last year's heroic FA Cup run to the second round dashed.

Railway were also up against UniBond division one opposition in Rossendale United and looked poised to spring another upset when Mark Delaney's 49th minute leveller cancelled out Russell Brierley's 16th minute strike for United.

Rossendale regained the lead when Lee Cooper fired home what proved to be the winner on 70 minutes.

Victory for Rossendale was not enough to save Jimmy McBride's job. United yesterday announced that they have sacked their manager following a string of disappointing league results.

Former Leeds United, Manchester City and England star David White has been appointed caretaker chief.

Selby Town's FA Cup hopes were ended by UniBond division one opponents Chorley.

Selby, who top the Northern Counties East League premier division, gave Chorley a run for their money, with ace poacher Joe Gaughan on target again.

He struck after 22 minutes to wipe out Lee Wilkinson's seventh minute opener for Chorley.

Four minutes into the second half and Dean Cooper bagged a second for Chorley.

In-form Harrogate Town, who will feature in today's FA Cup draw as they enter the competition at the second qualifying stage, saw their four match winning run in the UniBond League premier division halted by Runcorn FC Halton at Wetherby Road.

Harrogate were held to a 1-1 draw, although the point was enough to move Town clear in second place behind leaders Alfreton.

Town were in danger of losing the match when Steve Daly capitalised on an error to fire Runcorn into the lead just past the hour.

Colin Hunter salvaged a point for John Reed's men with a fine individual striker seven minutes from time.

In the NCEL first division, Tadcaster Albion gained their first win of the season, at the fifth attempt, with a 2-1 victory at Winterton Rangers courtesy of a goal in each half from Micky Amos. The win lifted Albion up to 16th place in the table.
