THE wedding album is one of the most cherished treasures of any couple, whether newly-weds or golden weds.
It's a permanent reminder of that happiest of days and whether it is kept on the sideboard or in the attic, it is always there to bring back the memories.
This week we take a peek into the wedding albums of bygone days in York, and for sheer nostalgia, it's a treat.
These pictures are taken from a rare collection belonging to Wards of York, the florist which is celebrating its centenary year.
Over the decades, when the Clifford Street florist provided flowers for a wedding, they asked for a photo of the big day to go on display in the shop.
They are now celebrating 100 years of the happy occasions by sharing their collection with us.
Florist owner David Bough said: "It is a real privilege for us to be involved in such wonderful occasions, to share in the happiness of the event."
Though undated, the wedding pictures were all apparently taken before the Second World War and show a selection of wedding styles.
They are a powerful indicator of hairstyles, wedding fashion whether the brides' or bridesmaids' dresses and headgear, and even the formality of wedding ceremonies and photographs.
For in those days it was almost unheard of - even shocking - not to be wed in a church, the bride in white.
No marrying in a Las Vegas hotel to the sound of Elvis, or on a beach in Barbados in T-shirt and shorts.
A quick inspection of these wedding pictures shows how flowers and bouquets have changed in vogue, with roses or lilies being the brides' favourite.
In our photos, several of the bridesmaids are also carrying large bouquets, with beautiful roses brightening up their simple outfits.
But the single bridesmaid is carrying an unusual rosette, made up of ribbon and tiny flowers, very unlike the bouquets most young bridesmaids or flower girls would expect today.
The brides reflect the styles of the day, with the stiff starched elegance of the grooms' dapper morning suits also forming a real contrast.
Are you in any of these pictures? Were you at any of these weddings, or do you know the people photographed here?
