THE magnificent setting of Castle Howard will provide the breathtaking backdrop for a new 10km charity running event.
There are just 1,000 places available at the Cancer Research UK 10 at Castle Howard, on Sunday, October 5, so participants are being asked to register as soon as possible.
The 10km (6.2 mile) course will take place among the fountains, lakes, temples and statues, including the Mausoleum and the Temple of the Four Winds, that dominate the grounds of Castle Howard. Owners Simon and Rebecca Howard say they are are delighted to host the Cancer Research UK 10 at their beautiful home.
Mrs Howard said: "I am lucky to be able to run in the grounds of Castle Howard every morning and I hope those taking part in the event will enjoy it as much as I do.
"This is such a great cause, close to everyone at the house, and we hope a great deal of money is raised on the day."
Louise Holland, Cancer Research UK's director of national events, said: "This is an ideal event for people to run together, share the achievement of crossing that finish line and raise money to help us cure cancer faster.
"By choosing Castle Howard as one of the venues, we hope to create the feel of a very special and exclusive day and not just stage a traditional road race.
"Family and friends who don't want to take part themselves can still come along to support the runners as well as take the opportunity to spend time enjoying the grounds of Castle Howard and house itself." The Cancer Research UK 10 is open to both men and women aged 15 or over. The registration fee of £17.50 includes free gardens and grounds admission to Castle Howard for the participant plus one guest. Entrance tickets for family or friends are available at a special discounted rate, which can be upgraded to include entry to the house.
Register online at www.cancerresearchuk.org/10, or telephone 0870 1909000.
