Ex-Murder Inc star Ashanti's self-penned second album is packed with slick summer-time R&B tunes.
Catchy beats and funky intros flow through tracks such as Rock Wit U (Awww Baby), Breakup 2 Makup and I Know, while more laid-back and soulful vibes, characteristic of Rain On Me, The Story Of 2 and Ohhh Ahhh, make this the perfect summer chill-out album. Frequent guest vocals of fellow R&B artists Chink Santana and Black Child are clever, but sometimes annoying, as is a singing session between Ashanti and her little sister Shia. A good cover of I Found Lovin has a funky 1980s sound and some horn and piano accompaniment brings an interesting soulful, bluesy and sometimes jazzy feel to the record. Chapter II is altogether a funky and upbeat album, with plenty of variety for R&B fans.
