Two-times world silver medallist Steve Backley issued a clear warning to his rivals with an easy javelin win in last night's North Down International Games in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
His winning throw of 81.42 metres came in the opening round as the Briton prepares for the World Championships in Paris.
"If I get to the World Championships in one piece, everyone of them knows I will be a dangerous man," said Backley.
Michael Allen, last weekend's AAA Championships runner-up placed third throwing 74.23m on home soil.
Backley added: "I have had no problems with my knee. If I can stay clear of injuries and niggles, I am sure you will see my at my best in Paris."
Backley is genuinely hoping his great rival and friend, Jan Zelezny, will defend the title he won two years ago in Edmonton.
"A Championship final without Jan appearing wouldn't be right," insisted Backley. "If you won, you would get the feeling of a hollow victory."
The Czech star - at 37 three years older than his British rival - definitely plans to defend his Olympic title next year.
That would give Zelezny a fourth-successive Games gold medal and he will not make a decision about going to the World Championships until after the Zurich Golden League meeting on August 15.
