ONE hundred children have the chance to see Julian Lloyd Webber's Bossa Nova premiere for free on August 9 at York Racecourse, Knavesmire, under the Kids For Free scheme.

Cellist Julian is part of a band of musicians championing the Kids For Free scheme to encourage musical education in schools and get the nation's youth listening to classical music.

Julian says: "Musical education has got so bad that something has to be done. The problem is that when money to schools was cut back, music was one of the first things to get chopped down. At primary level music has gone out of the curriculum so it's down to individuals whether its taught or not. I want to raise children's awareness of classical music and to do that we need a shift in attitude. Children hear pop music the whole time but classical is a blank area."

Through Julian's involvement in Kids for Free, concert organisers British Waterways and Aria Events Management, in association with Classic FM, are giving away 100 free child tickets to next weekend's premiere. If quoted when booking, Kids For Free allows one child to go free when accompanied by an adult paying the discounted price of £5. This offer is limited to one free place per family.

Tickets cost £15 with executive dining packages available too. For tickets and information, ring 01642 777778.
