I WITNESSED the re-enactment of Constantine's accession to the emperorship of Rome in St Sampson's Square.
He was converted to Christanity soon afterwards, so I particularly enjoyed his accession speech "spin" that rumours of his family interest in Christianity were unfounded and his soon-to-be-broken politician's pledge to continue Christian persecution.
It is great to see history played out live on the streets of York and to me it showed just how manufactured some entertainment can be. I'll bet the Disney Store in Parliament Street looked on with a twinge of jealousy.
