FUNDRAISING fisherman will be netting some cash for Macmillan Cancer Relief this weekend when they converge on Elvington Lake, near York.
Tomorrow and Sunday, keen fishermen from across the UK will be taking part in the second sponsored Northern Fish-in at Elvington, organised by Dave Webster, who runs a fishing website, and Stuart O'Connor.
Last year more than £5,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Relief to help provide improved care and support for people living with cancer.
Macmillan will once again be the main beneficiary but this year 20 per cent of the money raised will go to the British Disabled Angling Association.
Elvington Lake and Caravan Site has been given free of charge for the two-day event by owner Stan Britton.
Dave Webster said: "The word has spread about last year's event and people are very keen to come along and spend a weekend doing their favourite pastime, in beautiful, well-equipped surroundings - whilst raising money for two such good causes."
As well as sponsorship, money will be raised at the event by a raffle and auction of prizes donated by companies within the fishing trade. A list of sponsors is available, together with more details of the event and general fishing gossip on Mr Webster's website www.maggotdrowning.
