A NORTH Yorkshire craftsmen will be watching his work hit the small screen this winter when a celebrity One Man And His Dog goes on the air.

Jack Hollows, from Wilton, near Pickering, has been hand-crafting shepherds' crooks since the early 1960s. His ornate work has been chosen for shepherds and celebrities alike.

When the show was recently filmed at Castle Howard, Mr Hollows found his crooks a lot closer to home, as TV vet Trude Mostue, Countryfile presenter John Craven and countrywoman Clarissa Dickson Wright, commandeered them.

"For the shows I make four for each team - three for the competitors and one for the celebrity," said Mr Hollows. "I collect the sticks from different makers and then I craft the tops.

"My crooks have gone all over the world, including Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and America."
