NEW Fisheries Minister Ben Bradshaw was today meeting fishermen and industry chiefs in Scarborough and Whitby.
Mr Bradshaw, who landed the role in Tony Blair's June reshuffle, arrived at Whitby fish market at 6.45am.
The Exeter MP then travelled to Scarborough to inspect the town's port and meet the Sea Fisheries Inspectorate.
He was due to finish his trip with a visit to Skipwith, near York, this afternoon, where 95 per cent of land has been placed in countryside stewardship in a bid to increase biodiversity.
A spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: "Ben wants to get out and meet as many people involved in fishing as he can early on."
