AN AMBITIOUS production by York Theatre Royal showcasing the talents of local actors is receiving an overwhelming reception from audiences.
The theatre's production of Amadeus, telling the story of classical composer Mozart, has a cast of 23, which includes 12 non-professional actors from the local area.
The play, which opened on July 18 and runs until August 9, has the largest company of actors at the theatre aside from pantomime.
Julie Edwards, public relations officer, said the theatre had received numerous messages from audience members saying how much they had enjoyed the performance, and that fans had been queuing at the stage door each night to meet the stars.
"The response has been fantastic. This production has been produced here in York for York people and is a great opportunity for local people who are interested in acting.
"Because the cast was so large, we have used a much higher number of non-professionals than normal."
The amateurs have worked alongside the director and the professional cast, including Daniel Hart, who plays Mozart and recently featured in ITV's Midsomer Murders.
Tickets for Amadeus are still available.
