A BLOCK of derelict York toilets could soon be sold off.
The toilet block close to the Monk Bar car park, off Lord Mayor's Walk, has long been
derelict and is a well-known eyesore.
A city council scrutiny committee, led by Rawcliffe councillor Mark Waudby, has been investigating ways of cleaning the area up.
The council's executive will tomorrow debate a range of proposals for the block - including one that could see it sold off and demolished.
Senior consultant John Reid said in a report to council that the site had been placed on the market and 11 offers had been received for it.
It had been offered to the council's community services department for redevelopment as affordable housing, but was turned down for being too small.
The executive will also consider a proposal that would see a metal Superloo built in the car park, paid for with some of the cash raised from the sale.
Mr Reid said: "Since the Lord Mayor's Walk toilets were closed they have been boarded up and have been subject to graffiti. In addition the building and immediate surrounding area is being used as a meeting point for drug and alcohol users."
