Contrasting fortunes befell North Yorkshire golf aces Emma Duggleby and Simon Dyson in Ireland.
Duggleby was one of the heroines of the Great Britain and Ireland team, which fended off a storming rally by their European counterparts to claim the coveted Vagliano Trophy in County Louth for the first time in a decade. Duggleby gained a vital half in her singles duel with Sophia Giquel and was one of only three home players to remain unbeaten.
However, her Malton and Norton GC club-mate Dyson suffered a nightmare finale to the Nissan Irish Open at Portmarnock. Well-placed after three rounds (69 72 74) to post his best result on the European Tour for several weeks, Dyson was among a posse of players sunk by the worst of the elements in a wind and rain-lashed day to post a ten-over 82 for a dismal 297 total.
