SURREY bowler Jimmy Ormond claimed his first first-class hat-trick to complete a haul of four wickets in six balls against Middlesex yesterday.
The blitz left the visitors on 165-5 in their first innings of the Frizzell County Championship Division One match at Guildford before Abdul Razzaq (78) and David Nash (69no) took them to 346-8 in reply to Surrey's 411.
Ormond took out opener Andrew Strauss (87) and then claimed Ben Hutton (2), Ed Joyce (0) and Paul Weekes (0) in succession.
Lancashire turned the screw on Warwickshire as Stuart Law blasted 236 off 292 balls, sharing a stand of 228 with Glen Chapple (132). He was unbeaten as the Red Rose declared on 575-6.
Warwickshire then slumped to 192-8, with Chapple claiming 4-43.
In Division Two, second-placed Northants finished off Somerset on the second day, winning by an innings and 61 runs. They took 18 wickets on the day as Somerset fell to 96 all out and 168 all out.
Leaders Worcestershire took control against Gloucestershire, ad-vancing, in reply to 271, to 392-7.
