ORGANISERS of York's biggest ever open-air concert are hoping the weather clears up in time for their extravaganza tomorrow.
Air2003, the two-day open-air music and arts festival held for the first time this year, kicks off tomorrow, at York Racecourse.
Organisers are hoping the people of York will come out to support the event.
"We have been selling well in advance, especially for the first time the event is being held," said Catherine White, York Arts Forum organiser.
"Now we are hoping that the weather gets better again and everyone comes out to enjoy the sun and the music, although even in the rain I'm sure it will be great."
Organisers are expecting crowds of at least a thousand people on each day of the event.
But they were confident that there would be none of the associated traffic problems familiar with events on Knavesmire.
"We are using the car boot sale car parks which are large so we should be able to accommodate everyone, and we have got all the contingency plans in place should there be any problems."
More than 20 performers will take to the two stages for the extravaganza, which will inculde comedy, poetry and interactive arts.
Traditional festival fun, including market stalls, street entertainers, food and drink and camping, will also be on offer.
"It should be a great weekend," said Catherine.
"It will be great for all the family, as well as those who usually enjoy festivals, and it is a great price."
Tickets, priced from £11 per adult daily, will be available on the gate at the Bustardthorpe Field on Knavesmire, or by phone from the Barbican box office on 01904 656688.
