WHY hide behind a name so unassuming as to be practically invisible? The brainchild of Benoit Burello, this is the latest in a line of sonic adventures that have not troubled the public's musical radar.
A shame, because there is a lightness of touch about the recordings on Spacebox that sets it apart from much of the humdrum. The sound here is a cross between jazz (the music was recorded by a quintet, with double bass and guitar to the fore, with flashes of saxophone and voice), and minimalism (on account of the way notes are left to breath) - which should appeal to muzaks. The best song is Plainfield, with a chiming, hypnotic guitar line and haunting vocal, although The Wood Bunch is even subtler still. Many of the instrumental tracks lack variety - but they are never less than pleasant - making this is a quietly burning lo-fi pleasure.
