YORK bowler Peter Jackson has completed a notable treble of county triumphs.
The 22-year-old from Clifton scooped the junior (under-25) title at the Yorkshire County Bowling Association finals at Nafferton, his third such award in six years.
The youngster, who is in his second year at Bert Keech Bowls Club, has reached the junior county final four times, the previous three occasions as a member of Haxby Road BC across the city, first winning the title aged 17.
Jackson won three games to reach this year's shoot-out and there beat Carl Stoakes, from Fenners BC, Hull, 21-8.
North Yorkshire also provided the champions in the triples and pairs, who will join Jackson and the other winners of the five main competitions in representing the White Rose in the Northern Counties Championships at Stockton and the National Championships at Worthing next month.
York RI Amateurs trio Alan Close, Arthur Dunbar and Eric Wilkinson beat Northallerton's Malcolm Foster, Pete Kirby and Bill Vivers 27-17 in their final, while Kirkbymoorside's John Waters and John Ward beat father and son pair Malcolm and Mark Harrison, from Holgate, 17-16 on the very last end. That result prevented the Harrisons from completing a grand slam of victories in the four major events had they won.
Haxby Road's Steve Long, meanwhile, won the Under-18s Juniors title by defeating Brotton's Sean Wilson 21-17, though club-mate Garry Bunce had less luck in the two-wood singles when losing to Nafferton's Steve Dilks 21-13.
Dilks was also in the winning fours team from Nafferton which beat Haxby Road quartet of Mike Mansell, Eddie Howcroft, Roger Wood and Frank Turner 19-9.
The main singles competition was won by Nafferton's Mark Walton, who beat Paul Allenby, of River View, Hull, 21-11.
