Soldiers Major Richard Boddy and Warrant Officer Class 2 Kevin Johnston are due to arrive back in York this evening after a 24-hour run to Manchester and back.
The two York men were joined by four other soldiers from Yorkshire and the North East, and were raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research and Broughton House, a home for elderly and infirm ex-service personnel.
Brigadier David Shaw, brigade commander, and Lt Col John May set the runners off from York yesterday morning and Sally Lindsey, who plays Shelly in Coronation Street, was due to meet them in Manchester last night. They are due back in York at 7pm today where they will be welcomed by Gina Campbell, daughter of the late Sir Donald Campbell, along with the Royal Dragoon Guards piper and drummer.
