TWO attackers tried to force a teenager to tell them his pin number by strangling him after stealing his wallet during a frightening attack early today.
The 19-year-old man, who has not been named by police, was left shocked, but unhurt, by the assault in Goodramgate, York, at about 2.30am.
Police officers are now looking for witnesses who may have seen the attackers fleeing in the direction of Monk Bar when the man refused to divulge the information.
The man was walking home alone from a night out when he realised two men had begun following him after he passed through Market Street. The men grabbed him from behind and knocked him to the ground as he walked close to the Golden Slipper pub in Goodramgate and stole his wallet and mobile phone.
As he was pinned to the floor, one of the men seized him by the neck and demanded his cash point card number while the other restrained him.
He refused to tell them and they ran off.
York Police are now looking for the two men who are described as in their mid-20s.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or was in the Goodramgate area at that time is asked to phone York Police on 01904 631321.
