Wigginton racing cyclist Phil Brighton (Askham Bryan College/Ceejay Graphics) had a disappointing result in his final race before Friday's European Championships.
The 32-year-old science technician has been invited to ride in the Masters 'A' category of the championships and will tackle over two laps of the world famous TT circuit around the Isle of Man.
But his warm-up in the 72-mile Dudley road race, based on a five-mile circuit around Ingleby Greenhow was not his best display of the season.
It was a negative race with riders attacking and then being brought back.
Brighton opened the attacking after only four miles to ride away on his own, but was swept up by the bunch after a short period.
By the finish had to be content winning the uphill bunch sprint which also included Matt Manakee (Glendene CC), Tom Sheppard (VC York) for a disappointing 14th place. Chris Clark (VC York), who recently has had some top results, was also in the bunch with Brighton, but climbed off with two laps to go.
