TEENAGE trialist Craig Turns is set to don the gloves and go straight into the firing line for York City tomorrow as they take on Leeds United in a pre-season friendly.
The Minstermen are set to field more trialists in tomorrow's Bootham Crescent clash (KO 7.45pm) following on from the Sunderland friendly last week, with player-manager Chris Brass planning to include a second goalkeeper. However, no other names have yet been confirmed.
Turns, 19, released by Sunderland, is being tracked by several clubs and Brass is hoping he could provide decent back-up for the number one spot at Bootham Crescent.
"He's a good young 'keeper who's been attracting interest from a number of clubs," Brass told the Evening Press.
"He's someone who we probably won't be looking at for first-choice but he now has this opportunity to impress.
"He's been on the bench at Sunderland and has been involved in the first-team picture at times. He now has this opportunity with us and it's up to him to take it tomorrow night."
The rest of the City line-up will feature those players already signed on, with Brass saying it is important they begin to click.
Leeds are hoping to complete the medical on French defender Zoumana Camara in time for him to play at York.
Providing there were no problems, Leeds were expected to unveil him at a press conference to mark the signing of Jody Morris this afternoon.
Club officials are understandably making sure the medical is thorough because the powerful central defender has been plagued with injuries over the last couple of seasons having made just 14 appearances in 18 months at Lens.
If he comes through the tests, Leeds are keen to confirm a year-long loan deal with his French club who would like to get him off their wage bill, as they, like Leeds, are struggling to keep down costs.
Camara, who has also played for St Etienne and Inter Milan, as well as Empoli and Bastia, has one French cap, won in the 2001 Confederations Cup, which France won.The United side is expected to have a continental flavour with French trialists Joel Sammi and Sebastian Rostoe are likely to be given another chance to shine.
Morris should make his first appearance in a Leeds shirt at Bootham Crescent. David Batty is set to continue his comeback, while Nigel Martyn may well play part of the match, having given way to Scott Carson on the bench at the weekend.
Leeds are still negotiating with Crystal Palace for permission to play trialist Julian Gray in the match.
The South London club refused to allow their winger - who will cost £500,000 if Leeds decide to sign him - play against Bristol City on Saturday, and he may well miss out again at Bootham Crescent.
Another trialist, Brazilian winger Juliano Rodrigo, is receiving treatment for a calf injury and is another unlikely starter, but French trialists Joel Sammi and Sebastian Rostoe are likely to be given another chance to shine, along with a number of other youngsters like York-born Matthew Kilgallon, Frazer Richardson, James Milner and Simon Johnson.
City chief executive Keith Usher urged supporters to get to tomorrow's match early to avoid long queues at the turnstiles as a big crowd is expected.
