LEEDS United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn is expected to turn out against York City at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday night after rejecting a move to Chelsea.
The former England keeper missed Saturday's 0-0 draw at Bristol City after Chelsea made their approach.
Paul Robinson started the match, youngster Scott Carson taking over in goal 20 minutes from the end.
Aston Villa are reported to be preparing a new swoop for Robinson, who originally rejected the move. One of the reasons Martyn turned down Chelsea was his hunger for first team football - and if Robinson leaves Elland Road he will almost certainly be installed as number one.
Reid is expected to give several of his Bristol absentees a runout at York, among them new signing from Chelsea Jody Morris who passed his medical on Friday.
York-born central defender Matthew Kilgallon played the full 90 minutes at Ashton Gate and impressed. Now he is hoping to play against his home city club on Wednesday.
However, Kilgallon is still inexperienced and Reid has been linked with French central defender Zoumana Camara from Lens. Leeds favour a season-long loan deal for Camara, aged 24.
French trialists Joel Sammi and Sebastian Rostoe left the bench in the 57th minute against Bristol and hope to land contracts at Leeds.
Central defender Sammi looked comfortable in an unfamiliar right back role, while Rostoe was less involved on the right flank.
David Batty's hopes of playing against his old club Newcastle in United's opening game of the season next month have received a massive lift.
Batty was outstanding at Ashton Gate as he made his first start for the first team since April, 2002.
The tenacious former England midfielder showed all his famed aggression in a 57 minute stint.
