THE Evening Press football team lifted the inaugural Keith Walwyn Trophy on Saturday after winning the six-a-side competition at Huntington School organised by York City fans.
Press beat Jesmond Lynams 3-1 in the final thanks to goals from German recruit Seb Schiewe, striker Simon Lee and midfielder Gavin Tate.
The goal against was the only one conceded by 'keeper Steve Carroll in eight games on the day as Press topped both group stages on the way to the semi-finals, in which they beat Drum 2-0.
The trophy, named after City's legendary striker who died earlier this year, was presented by City chairman Steve Beck to winning player-manager Dave Hopwood. The plate competitions, the York Nomads Cup and Crabtree Cup, were won by York Nomads Youth and Mitsui Babcock respectively.
