SHERIFF Hutton Bridge's skipper Paul Oldfield and his vice-captain Paul Scaling were in immense form as their side marched into the National Village Championship quarter-finals with a superb 84-run victory over Warkworth.
A big crowd came down to Moor Farm, and the ground will be full again in two weeks time to see the Bridge entertain Streethouses, with only two games to go before the final at Lord's.
Bill Pringle, the Northumberland-based side's captain, won the toss and his decision to bowl was looking good as Stephen Boyd restricted the home side to 43-2 early on.
This then brought Paul Scaling to join Oldfield at the middle, and they immediately tore the opposition's bowling apart.
The pair put on 175 for the third wicket, and when Scaling finally went for the first of four Alastair Dalgleish wickets, he had hit 97 off only 72 balls, including seven sixes.
Oldfield went on to complete a wonderful century, carrying his bat through for 111 no from 120 balls, as his side reached 281-6 off their 40 overs.
In reply Warkworth started brightly with openers Tom Jones and Stephen Dargue putting on 71 but spinner Danny Snowball made the breakthrough in a brilliant nine over spell of 2-25.
After that the visitors were never in the hunt, and despite Tom Jones carrying on to get an unbeaten 77, they could only muster 197-6.
