TRAIN enthusiasts in York stepped back in time to mark the 90th anniversary of the Derwent Valley Light Railway.
Staff re-created the line's opening ceremony, held on July 19, 1913, by dressing in the fashions of the time and enjoying traditional attractions such as carousels and two brass bands. During yesterday's event the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Chas Hall, also enjoyed a ride on the remaining stretch of the line, at Murton Park, York. The celebration, dubbed an Edwardian-style event as the original opening came three years after the reign of King Edward VII and before the First World War, attracted young and old, with many wearing hats or full costume.
