AFTER the demise of their second X1, Heslington suffered a serious setback in their division three promotion hopes when relegation- threatened Bolton Percy handed out a ten-wicket thrashing.
Heslington were held to 111-8 as Howard Hall took 6-43 in a 22-over marathon. Australian Tydon Latty then plundered the Heslington bowlers as he raced to an unbeaten 78 and, with Danny White making 29no, Bolton won in the 16th over.
Leaders Hemingbrough took full advantage of a third-placed New Earswick side that was severely weakened by the absence of seven players on a stag weekend to take the full 30 points.
Maqsood Akbar equalled the league record of six centuries in a season when he made 108, while Nathan Briggs (26) and Ghazanfar Rehman, a recent recruit from Bradford League side Bowling Old Lane, made 38 to help post 222-7.
Andy Freeman, having taken 3-90 in a 21-over spell then made 28 while James Routledge chipped in with 37 but Stuart Cox took 3-24 as the depleted hosts fell to 115 all out.
Hovingham maintained second place with a win over a Yapham side who are edging nearer to the relegation zone.
Yapham made a competitive score of 181-7 due to an unbeaten 78 by Paul Barnes and 35 from Jonathan Flint, who followed with 4-36.
But 63 from Nick Elliott coupled with 47 by Alistair Thorpe enabled Hovingham to win in the last over by five wickets.
A good knock of 72 by Chris MacLaren enabled Bubwith to get the better of a draw at Civil Service.
Mick Bradley took 5-50 and Paul Wynn 3-68 but MacLaren's effort enabled Bubwith to reach 158 all out.
Service then enjoyed an opening stand of 104 as Simon Brown (60) and Bob Graves (39) made batting look easy but Gary Moore then changed the scenario in dramatic fashion as he claimed 7-30 to leave Service on the edge of a breakdown at 139-9.
There was a low scoring draw at Elm Park Way which saw Heworth close four runs short of Pickering's 145-7.
Andy Hill top scored for Pickering with 61, while K R Aconley made 26 and R W Aconley 32 in a total of 145-7 with Dan Walton's 4-25 being the pick of Heworth's bowling. When Heworth replied, Ian Nottingham made 41 before Hill again made his mark with 3-10. Graham Hogben tried hard to earn a win for his side with an unbeaten 38 but Heworth's time elapsed with them reaching 141-7.
Woodhouse Grange made a good start in reaching 50-0 with Dave Langton making 29 but then dawdled to 125-6 against Clifton Alliance.
Alliance took their time but John Thornton then played the decisive role as he hit four enormous sixes in making 38 in around three overs and, with John Myers adding 26, Clifton gained their first win of the season.
