KNAVESMIRE school officially unveiled its totem pole display as pupils across North and East Yorkshire prepared for the long summer holidays.
Situated in the playground, the carvings, which represent various images of school life, are the result of months of work.
The children were guided and instructed by wood carver Albert Hobson, who studied native totem poles in Canada.
"We are all grateful for the time and effort which has gone into the totem poles", said head teacher Carol Weston.
Pupils at St Wilfrid's have also been showing their creative side, as they displayed their sculpture work.
An outdoor mosaic of rainbow coloured stones is the most eye-catching piece. "It's really brightened up our garden area", said a teacher at the school.
Children were also able to make their own individual sculptures using stones and shells, and created a 3D screen for use inside their classroom.
Heworth School pupils showed their talent for drama as they took part in the Early Years Festival on Tuesday.
The children, aged between six and seven, spent the day working on and performing an adaptation of the book Going On A Bear Hunt.
"They had a lovely time," said head teacher Keith Schooling. "It was a great success."
