BRITISH and American forces have, in less than two years, invaded and now occupy Afghanistan and Iraq.
However, Britain's coalition with the Americans has failed to capture Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein; failed to crush al Qaida or the Taliban; failed to find weapons of mass destruction, and now faces increasing resistance and resentment from Afghanis and Iraqis.
Moreover, the invasion of Iraq wasn't sanctioned by the United Nations or supported by other major countries.
Where does that leave morale among the brave, skilled British forces who not only serve the country, but are also intelligent individuals?
Surely, many in all ranks of Britain's armed forces must lack enthusiasm for involvement in attacking and occupying two countries that were no threat to Britain?
Having chosen a career in the military, I wonder how many now have doubts about their choice, and perhaps are even considering resigning their commission to seek more satisfying employment?
Presumably, military disillusionment will increase as the Bush/Blair partnership's stated reasons for war become ever more discredited.
