RECORDS tumbled at Stamford Bridge yesterday as Yorkshire 2nds amassed a formidable first innings total of 534-5 wickets declared against Lancashire in the Second X1 Championship, writes Alan Barker.
This was the highest score Yorkshire have achieved against any opposition in the Second X1 championship and a partnership between Tim Bresnan (102no) and Malcolm Pyrah (52no) off 157 was the best sixth wicket partnership for Yorkshire against their Lancashire opponents.
However, Lancashire were not overawed by the task of chasing such a huge total.
On a flat wicket the visitors played solid cricket to reach 233 for the loss of just two wickets by close of play. Opener Mark Currie remained unbeaten on 100, with useful contributions coming from Sutcliffe (58) and Horton (49).
With the wicket now showing signs of taking spin Yorkshire will be looking to make early in-roads into the visitors' batting order today if they are to achieve a useful first innings lead.
