WOW, I thought. A band named after the mighty Joe Corrigan, the legendary six foot four-and-a-half guardian of Manchester City's nets in the 1970s.
As icons go, a good one to latch on to. Shame it turns out the band's named after its lead singer, Martin J Corrigan, who seems to have shown no inclination towards terrifying pint-sized centre forwards.
The modest Corrigan stokes up the fire in his colleagues, however, churning out an urgent rock that falls somewhere between The Pixies and fellow Irish outfit The Frames - although the majesty of Waterballad hints at Nick Cave influences.
But that, Forget It and America Is Waiting are about the only tracks to care about. As albums go, three songs worth listening to is a meagre reward.
