TWO brothers showed racegoers the Full Monty on Knavesmire during John Smith's Cup day.

As the near record-breaking crowd of 38,000 enjoyed York Racecourse's latest meeting, David George Boyle, 30 and Ian Charles Boyle, 21, stripped off to their birthday suits.

Then together they streaked on to the racecourse and past the winning post.

Steven Ovenden, prosecuting at York Magistrates Court, said: "Some of the crowd were egging these defendants on. They certainly played up to the crowd and played their part."

But the racecourse authorities did not encourage such behaviour and police called a halt to the late afternoon performance.

Magistrates fined each brother £150 with £55 costs.

Joiner David Boyle, of Saltersgill Avenue, Middlesbrough, and heating engineer Ian Boyle, of Sutton Way, Middlesbrough, both admitted using behaviour likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress.

For the brothers, Sally Howard said:

"The brothers had themselves been drinking, which could have affected their judgement. They had stripped off as a joke between themselves and looking back on it now in a sober light they appreciated that their actions had been extremely foolish."
