IN the quarter-finals of the Persimmon Homes Ideal Standard Williamson Cup Dunnington 'A' and Shipton were tied on 70 shots each after 21 ends.

All four rinks took part in the extra end which Shipton won 8-2. The league's top two sides also met with Holgate making full use of home advantage to post a 77-65 win over Haxby Road.

In the York Bowling Association division one, seven consecutive defeats for Burnholme leaves them six points adrift at the bottom with only four points separating the three teams above them - Osbaldwick, West Park and Dringhouses.

A 7-1 defeat for Heworth Cons at home to Clifton has caused them to lose touch with the promotion places in division two, but six wins from seven games has brought Harrogate back in contention.

In division three, five wins from six games has put Minster ten points clear of other teams looking to join champions-elect Selby in achieving promotion.

The Williamson and Fellowship Cup finals will take place on Wednesday, July 23, with Falconer Street hosting one final and Bert Keech or Shipton, the other depending on results between Bert Keech-Shipton, Holgate-Heworth Cons, RI Amateurs, Dringhouses and RI Corinthians-Poppleton Road WMC.

After completion of the Ladies Yorkshire County singles and pairs, Betty Richardson (Bert Keech) and Cath Blease (Copmanthorpe) have qualified for the final and a chance to compete in the National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa.

Richardson had a comfortable win in the four-wood semi against Janet Haigh (Hull), but Cath required an extra end to beat Marie Smith (Sessay) in the two-wood singles.

Maureen Thomas (Dunnington) fell at the final hurdle 21-20 to Beryl Alderson (Redcar), while in the pairs semis Carol Instone-Dot Kennelly (Dunnington) and Michelle Mooring-Anita Haw (Bert Keech) lost to Hull and Redcar opponents.
