A MOTHER and daughter are celebrating a hat-trick of wins in a Best Window Display contest.

Angela Mullaney, 56, and Cath Evans, 31, who run The Clothes Line shop, in Tadcaster, decided the best way to win the judges over was to give peace a chance.

The Swinging Sixties was the theme for the latest competition, run by Tadcaster Chamber of Trade and Commerce to support the town's Britain In Bloom entry.

Mother-of-two Angela and mother-of-one Cath dressed up as hippies, wearing long wigs decorated with flowers and long skirts featuring psychedelic patterns.

In their shop window, in High Street, was a big poster featuring a CND badge and the word peace. But what really clinched their win was when they put two loudspeakers out on the pavement and played John Lennon's anthem Give Peace A Chance.

Angela said: "Flower power was the order of the day, although I must admit we looked quite awful dressed up as hippies."

Angela and joint owner Cath also won the best window display competition held last year to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and the spring contest in April.

There were 23 entries for this week's competition. Second was Carol Simpson's Room 3 clothes shop, in Kirkgate, and third was Julie Simpson's Classic Creations florist, in High Street.
