THIS is the first live recording Miles made and this release restores 13 tracks omitted from the 1961 originals.
Thus, it represents all the music played over two nights, in chronological order, by this historically important band in a live club setting.
Ralph Gleason wrote the original album notes for the 1961 Blackhawk release and noted that Davis was, "like Picasso, a great commercial success in his own lifetime... a rare symbol to artists everywhere of the triumph of uncompromising art."
Miles chose standards (If I Were A Bell, Autumn Leaves), Thelonius Monk's Round Midnight and his own compositions So What, Fran Dance and No Blues for this masterwork. It is an essential companion to Birth Of The Cool, Kind Of Blue and Sketches Of Spain with a great cover shot, original notes and new ones from trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who attended both nights.
