I am pleased that the York Schools' Athletics Championships provided its participants and TE Myers (July 11) with such enjoyment. That is what sport should be about.
Most York City supporters would be only too pleased to see the athletes continue their occupation of Ryedale/Huntington Stadium and unencumbered by the presence of our club.
We do not wish to go there. Mr Myers assertion that 'unless a similar, convenient stadium can be built they need to stay here' will also ring true with City fans.
The stadium at Huntington is not an adequate replacement for Bootham Crescent in its present state or in the totally inadequate, unworkable and amateurish plans which City of York Council are attempting to foist on the football club.
Unfortunately Mr Myers seems to be under the mistaken impression that York City 'allowed Bootham Crescent to be sold from under them'. The reality is that the previous directors, under the leadership of Douglas Craig, separated the club from its traditional home.
Under their current guise as Bootham Crescent Holdings they are in the process of cashing in their legally obtained but morally dubious gains with the involvement of York-based Persimmon Homes, a company which make much of its community values. A community football club seems to fall outside the concerns of both these companies.
It is not yet too late for Bootham Crescent Holdings and Persimmon to have a change of heart, hopefully with a more helpful input from City of York Council than has been apparent so far.
