The landscape surrounding the ancient monuments at Thornborough, near Ripon, is in danger of being lost to quarrying.
It appears that Tarmac Northern has the mineral extraction rights at Thornborough and will be responsible for destroying this ancient site.
To add insult to injury, Yorwaste is dumping rubbish, possibly even from our own city, in old quarries owned by North Yorkshire County Council, located only a few yards away from the henges.
Now is the time for all responsible citizens to wake up to the fact that if we do not oppose this vandalism, the landscape surrounding this ancient site, which is on a par with Stonehenge, will be lost for ever.
Please write now, before it is too late, to your MP, Tarmac Northern, Jeremy Walker (the chief executive of North Yorkshire County Council) and English Heritage.
All details can be found on the Friends of Thornborough website, www.friendsofthornborough.org.
