ORGANISERS of a fundraising six-a-side tournament are to honour one of York City's favourite sons.

Fans organising the competition, which gets underway on Saturday, have named it in honour of former City striker Keith Walwyn, who died earlier this year.

All 16 places have now been filled for the inaugural Keith Walwyn Fans Tournament, which will also include an Evening Press team.

All proceeds from the event will be split between the City Supporters' Trust and the Blackpool Hospital Coronary Unit, at the request of Walwyn's widow, Liz.

The event will take place on the all-weather pitches at Huntington School, starting at 11am and finishing at 6pm.

A raffle will also be staged with a York City season-ticket and a new City Nike shirt signed by the current squad up for grabs.

For anyone who is unable to attend the event but would like to enter the raffle, tickets, priced at £1 each, can be purchased by post from Fansmatch, c/o 12 Stepney Avenue, Scarborough, YO12 5BW with cheques made payable to York City Supporters' Trust.

Details about the competition can also be found at the tournament website at www16.brinkster.com/fansmatch

A fundraising auction, where supporters can bid for a place in one of two teams that will play in possibly the final match at Bootham Crescent, could raise as much as £10,000 for the Supporters' Trust.

Some £3,000 was raised when just the 'home' team places went under the hammer at the club's open day on Sunday. The top bid was £375.

The away team places will be auctioned off at a later date, with the number 11 shirt being sold-off in a raffle to run through the season.

Organisers are hopeful of further adding to the monies raised by securing sponsorship for the end of season match.
