A NORTH Yorkshire drug dealer was jailed for four years after being convicted of a string of drugs offences.
Richard Walker, 32, of Beechwood Croft, Sherburn-in-Elmet, was caught with 53 packets of heroin with a street value of more than £2,000, York Crown Court heard.
Also found at his home was equipment including weighing scales bearing traces of drugs, along with three mobile phones. He also had £120 worth of cash in his pocket. He pleaded guilty to supplying class A drugs, possessing class A drugs with intent, and possession of class A, B and C drugs.
In mitigation, the court heard Walker had recently been told he had a daughter and was keen to have a positive involvement in his child's life.
He was also keen to take part in a drug treatment and testing programme to get rid of his addiction.
In sentencing Walker, Judge Gavin Barr-Young, said it was quite apparent that he was a drug dealer.
He said: "Now you say that you have seen the error of your ways and wish to be given a drug treatment and testing order.
"Whatever help you are given, it comes down to you. Others that have been made have little lasting impression.
"I am not persuaded that the time is right or appropriate for a drug treatment and testing order in your case."
