I AM appalled at the sheer arrogance, the narrow mindedness, the bullying, the demanding and the whinging of York City Football Club in all that I have read lately about their proposed move to Huntington Stadium.
They think that they are the only ones that matter and that whatever they demand they should receive. Never mind the athletics, never mind the rugby, never mind the residents of Huntington who have never been asked if we want the club here with all its noise, litter, public order, extra vehicles, pollution - no, they don't count, only the saving of the football club.
But it will only be saved their way. They want to get off their high horse and mighty pedestal and see what people out there are trying to help and the saving of the club is the most important thing.
Just think if it had not been for Ryedale and the residents of Huntington they would not have the choice of a stadium to move in to and there is a danger of the residents of Huntington, 10,000 or more, objecting to the planning application.
They want to thank the City of York Council which is trying to help them and work with them to come to a compromise in order to save the club. Just remember, when you are homeless you cannot always demand and get a five-star hotel.

...I AM very angry with John Greenway's comment that the athletics track should be moved (July 10).
Like many other people, in 1988 I ran in a sponsored race to help raise money for the athletics track which graces Ryedale Stadium.
Mr Greenway, it would appear, shows the same sort of mentality which has led to the Wembley fiasco, while Cardiff's Millennium Stadium is able to host not only major soccer and rugby matches but also an event such as a world speedway grand prix as well as athletics.
York City FC are welcome to relocate to Ryedale Stadium, just leave the athletics track where it is please.

...PERSIMMON Homes (as a significant shareholder in Bootham Crescent Holdings, the landlord of Bootham Crescent) should think twice before evicting York City from Bootham Crescent at the end of the coming season so that it can redevelop the ground.
By leaving the club without a viable alternative venue to play at, Persimmon may well be remembered as the York-based company that bulldozed an important community asset and brought about the demise of North Yorkshire's only professional football team in pursuit of a quick buck.
Not a good image for a housing company that prides itself on being "socially responsible", I would say. If this is the way they do business, I for one won't be buying one of their houses.

...APART from wondering just how much more York City supporters can take, the furore over Huntington Stadium only serves to reaffirm the single constant throughout this sorry affair.
That in probably one of the greatest acts of self-interest this city has ever seen, former chairman Douglas Craig stands to reward himself handsomely over his disposal of Bootham Crescent. Whereas the football club and the people of York will gain precisely nothing.
