A Selby police officer was allegedly punched in the face in what was described as an "unprovoked attack".
The incident is said to have happened in the early hours of Saturday as the uniformed officer was patrolling Selby town centre with another officer.
A police spokesman said that as the constable was speaking to a man, in Finkle Street, he became aggressive and allegedly punched the officer in the face.
The spokesman said the injuries were not serious and did not require hospital treatment.
