A FILM version of the story of the North Yorkshire Womens' Institute members who famously bared all for a calendar is to get an exclusive showing in the county.
The movie, Calendar Girls, starring Julie Walters and Helen Mirren, tells the story of the daring stunt by Rylstone Women's Institute. It is to be given a special screening in Thirsk in October - for ladies of the WI only. It has already wowed audiences at the Cannes Film Festival, and is expected to be the next top British film. "You have heard about it on the TV, you have read about it in the newspapers, now come and see it," said spokeswoman Pat Shotton. A celebrity lunch will be held at the Town Hall in Thirsk before the screening to recognise the achievements of the ladies. The film premiers in the UK with gala showings in London, Leeds and Skipton. The Women's Institute showing will take place at Thirsk Cinema on October 24, from 2.30, with lunch beginning at noon. Phone the North Yorkshire East Federation of Women's Institutes on 01845 522415 for more details.
