SOPHIE Calpin struck gold in the North Eastern County Championships at Sheffield for York City Baths Club.

She won the 12 years 100m breaststroke in a personal record and a national qualifying time,

She also clocked an nqt in the 200m breaststroke, but just missed a medal.

Silver went to Alice Sunderland in the 13 years 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke. All were pbs and national qualification times and saw her finish second in the top age group award.

She also clocked a pb in the 200m freestyle, but was just outside the medals.

Hannah Petts also improved her best time in the 12 years 200m butterfly to win bronze in an nqt. She also reached finals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m and 400m IM (pb and nqt) and 100m freestyle.

Lauren Horseman won bronze in the 11 years 100m butterfly (pb) and also did her fastest 200m but missed out on a medal.

Other YCBC swimmers who made finals were: Andrew Fowler 100m freestyle (pb and nqt), 100m butterfly (pb) and 200m IM; Christopher Burns 100m freestyle, backstroke, backcrawl and breaststroke and 200m breaststroke (nqt). All times pb. He finished third in the top age group award.

Rachel Eastough 100m backcrawl, Philip Graves 100m freestyle, Michelle Moffatt 100m and 200m freestyle (both pbs, 200m an nqt); Alexander Fowler 100m breaststroke and 200m freestyle (both pbs).

Other York swimmers with pbs were David Recchia, Lucy Recchia, Beckie Jenkins, Olivia Lawrencson and Kate Feehan.

The national finals are being held at Sheffield on July 27-30 when former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies will present the prizes.
