YORK City boss Chris Brass today released two more trialists and announced the name of a new arrival hoping to secure a contract.

Following Andy Turner and Phil Straker out of the exit door are midfielder Carl Heiniger, who has been playing club football in Germany, and former Notts County and Blackburn Rovers youngster Danny Stone.

Arriving on trial on Monday is former Huddersfield Town, Bury and Stockport striker Ian Lawson.

Despite letting the players go, Brass praised both Heiniger and Stone.

"Carl did ever so well but he is just very similar to what we already have here. I was impressed with him but I couldn't take a gamble," the City chief told the Evening Press.

"In the case of Danny, unfortunately for him with Chris Smith having signed that door has closed for him."

The club's other remaining trialists, goalkeeper Steve Croudson, Darren Dunning, Aaron Wilford and Andrew Jordan, are all expected to play a part in City's opening pre-season friendly with Sunderland on Wednesday.

"They have impressed me on the training field and now it is up to them to try and impress me in a game," said Brass.

Former City goalscoring hero Marco Gabbiadini has signed for Hartlepool United after being released by Northampton last season.

Ex-City midfielder Steve Agnew is Leeds United's new reserve team coach after Roy Aitken's decision to rejoin David O'Leary at Aston Villa.

Shipley-born midfielder Agnew, 37, spent three seasons at Bootham Crescent, leaving in 2001, having also played for Barnsley, Sunderland and Leicester.
