BARBICAN still lead the race for the division one title in the York Veterans Bowls League with only two weeks remaining.

Holgate are two points behind with Bert Keech 'C' a further point in arrears and the top three teams meet each other in the final two weeks.

Division two leaders Holgate WMC beat Museum 20-14 after losing to Dunnington 'B' 14-13.

They now only lead West Park 'A' - 16-12 conquerors of Poppleton 'C' - by virtue of a better shots difference.

Wigginton 'B' are two points behind the leaders, but Wigginton 'C' will be relegated to division three.

Bootham beat Bishopthorpe 'B' 21-11 in division three and are now assured of promotion. They also only require one point to secure the title.

The other promotion spot is between Shipton and Poppleton 'A'.

Similarly RI Amateurs are assured of promotion from division four after an easy 20-8 win over Acomb 'A'.

Nestl 'C' and West Park 'C' are vying for the other promotion place.

Osbaldwick 'A' beat Copmanthorpe 'A' 20-9 in division five and lead the table by three points. They clinched promotion but are not yet sure of the title. Copmanthorpe 'A' are relegated.

RI Spartans still lead division six after a 15-15 draw against Copmanthorpe 'B'.

Stamford Bridge 'B' and Dringhouses 'C' trail by two points and three points respectively, but both have a game in hand.

In the quarter finals of the Maddison Cup, fourth division Retreat surprisingly beat Barbican 20-19 and Bootham had an easy 24-9 win against Acomb 'B'. The other two games were postponed.

In the Coronation Cup, Acomb 'A' had a good 32-9 win against first division West Park 'B' and Dringhouses 'A' beat second division Nestl 'A' 20-13. Osbaldwick 'A' beat their 'C'-team clubmates 23-9.

The semi-finals of both competitions will be played next Thursday at Dunnington and Poppleton.
