WAS your marriage made in Ziggys?
Couples who first met in the York nightclub, and later married, can relive their historic moment on Friday to celebrate its 21st birthday.
Owner Andrew Elliott is urging people to bring in photos of their memorable nights out at Ziggys to reminisce about past conquests and dodgy haircuts.
The Micklegate venue - which is nicknamed "Club Z" and attracts a large cult following among students and the middle-aged - has undergone a £100,000 facelift to commemorate the landmark.
It includes new furniture, carpets, dancefloor, paintwork and bar fittings.
"We will have a bit of fun on Friday and reminisce with our old customers," said Andrew
"Ziggys has been a popular meeting place in York for years and years.
"Hundreds of couples must have met here and gone on to get married. It would be great if they came along on Friday for a drink and a dance.
"It's a massive part of York's social scene. Nothing would surprise me about people anymore after working here.
"Anything that happens within these four walls is private. We've had to carry out drunken dignitaries in the past."
The venue is housed in a listed building which was built in 1752 and designed by the famous York architect John Carr.
Before Andrew took over it was formerly known as the 55 Club and Barrons and was also a restaurant.
Manager Steve Rogers, who joined the team nearly 20 years ago, said: "We'll have a great time on Friday - it will be nice to see a lot of the old faces."
Andrew says his best memories over the 21 years have included booking former Radio One DJs such as Simon Bates and Dave Lee Travis.
"The years have flown by," he added.
"People leave their inhibitions at the door when they come to Ziggys."
The club has recently launched its own website at www.ziggysnightclub.co.uk
