YORK schools were commended for their commitment to art at a ceremony at the Theatre Royal.
Nine schools across the city were given Artsmark awards - a national accolade from Arts Council England to schools dedicated to the arts.
The awards are given annually and come in three levels, Artsmark, Artsmark Silver and Artsmark Gold.
Tang Hall and Clifton Green primary schools received gold awards, Huntington School and Oaklands secondary school received silver awards along with Robert Wilkinson, New Earswick, Wigginton and Yearsley Grove primary schools.

The awards were presented by Rommi Smith, a Leeds-based performance poet and playwright.
Rommi said: "I am delighted to be part of the Artsmark ceremony. This is an opportunity to recognise and profile the artistic achievement of young people in schools throughout Yorkshire.
"The event is a chance for all of us to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of young people's imaginations."
Raincliffe School, in Scarborough, received an Artsmark award and St John Fisher School in Harrogate received a silver award.
